Voltage control
Maximize flavor
Terpenes are the part of your extract that carries taste and smell, and they are volatile — the first thing a hot coil takes. Run the battery at the lowest voltage that still makes vapor and a terpene-rich cart tastes the way it should: bright, distinct, closer to the strain. Turn it up and you trade some of that nose for a denser, warmer pull.
Flow is the other half, and it has nothing to do with taste. Oil has to reach the coil as fast as the coil vaporizes it. Thick or cold extract wicks slowly, and heat is what gets it moving — which is why 4.0V is not an upgrade over 3.4V so much as the setting for a different oil, or the same oil on a cold morning. One setting cannot cover both jobs, so this one gives you three.

Four steps to your first pull
Charge it fully
Use the included USB to Micro-USB cable and any standard USB port or wall adapter. The 650mAh cell fills in about 45 minutes and the LED tells you when it is done.
Thread on your cart
Hand-tight is tight enough. Over-tightening a 510 connection is the fastest way to kill a cartridge, so stop as soon as it seats.
Unlock and start at 3.4V
Five clicks unlock the battery, then three clicks step through the three voltages. Let a fresh cart sit a few minutes so the wick saturates, then pull short and low before stepping up.
Store it upright
Standing the battery up keeps oil out of the airway and off the contact. Wipe the 510 threads now and then to keep the connection clean.

If you came here from our terpene pages, this is the other half of the setup. Extract on its own is too thick to wick. A few drops of organic terpene solution brings it to vaping viscosity and puts the strain's nose back in — then a variable voltage battery keeps the heat low enough to taste it.

Start at 3.4V and step up only if the draw feels thin. Two things decide the answer: flavor, which is always best at the lowest voltage that still makes vapor, and flow — thick or cold oil wicks slowly, so it takes more heat to move. One caveat worth knowing: a harsh, scorched taste at 4.0V usually means the cart is nearly empty rather than that the setting is wrong. Drop back to 3.4V for the last few draws.
Five clicks lock and unlock the battery, so it will not fire in a pocket or a bag. Once unlocked, three clicks step through 3.4V, 3.7V and 4.0V, and holding the button while you inhale fires the coil.
